Question of the Day for Monday, August 12, 2013
Q. Could you explain the significance of the Transfiguration of the Lord?
A. Here’s a reply from Father Reginald Martin:
Midway through Matthew’s Gospel account Jesus asks his disciples who they believe him to be. Peter exclaims, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God” (Mt 16:16). Six days later, Jesus takes Peter, James and John up a mountain with him. There he is bathed in light, and the disciples see him flanked by Moses and Elijah. A voice from heaven identifies Jesus as “my beloved Son,” and commands the disciples to “listen to him” (17:5).
