Question of the Day for Friday, August 2, 2013
Q. Since I am 80 years old and housebound, I watch Mass on Saturday evenings on television. I cannot watch on Sunday, as my family visits me.
However, I discovered recently that the Mass I watch is a repeat of a Saturday morning television Mass and is not, therefore, a Saturday vigil Mass. I fear that this does not fulfill my Sunday obligation. Please comment.

A. Here’s a reply from OSV columnist Msgr. M. Francis Mannion:
Since you are 80 and housebound, you are not obliged by the usual Sunday obligation. So you need have no concern in this regard.
Viewing — and trying to participate in — the Saturday morning/evening televised Mass is perfectly appropriate for your situation.
I hope someone from your parish brings you Communion weekly. If not, contact your pastor or whoever is in charge of eucharistic ministry to the homebound.
