June 26, Wednesday Weekday

The Lord remembers his covenant for ever. — Psalm 105:8

Mass Readings: Genesis 15:1-12,17-18/Matthew 7:15-20

Fruits of Our Labor

As a writer, I love the images in today’s Gospel. (Jesus had a way with words!) Wolves in sheep’s clothing. Looking for grapes from thorn bushes and for figs from thistles. A paying attention to the fruits that come from . . . ?

From whom? From others. And, in the same way, from me and my actions. My choices. My daily decisions. If I act contrary to the will of God, if I sin, the “fruits” will result. Not grapes and figs, but thorns and thistles. Yes, a big decision can bring big fruit, but those daily actions, those small “fruits,” quickly mount up. They become a blessing not just for me but for others. And they offer proof — God’s blessing — that I’m doing what I’m supposed to do.

Prayer: Thank You, dear Lord, for blessing my good choices.
