From all their distress God rescues the just. — Psalm 34 (see 18)
Mass Readings: 2 Corinthians 11:18,21-30/Matthew 6:19-23
A Deal for You!
I like to watch television infomercials for a little while. I think it’s a hoot to see some guy going nuts over a onion chopper or mop. (“But wait it does even more!”) I’ve never bought any of the products. And I’ve never believed they truly loved whatever it was they were selling. They loved selling . . . and getting paid.
St. Paul can come off a little like that and in today’s first reading he seems to admit it. “I am talking like an insane person.” More than just a “fool for Christ,” he nuts for Him. But not because he likes to sell. Not because of a paycheck. (His reward will be martyrdom.) He does it because of whom he met on the road to Damascus.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I want to love You like crazy!
