Are the Dead Conscious?

Q. Are the dead conscious?

Modern science teaches that other material elements have replaced the original dust, but we believe, as an article of faith, “The rational soul is per se the essential form of the body” (Ludwig Ott, “Fundamentals of Catholic Dogma,” p. 97).
