Gifts of the Spirit

Q. What are the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit?

A. Here’s a reply from Father Reginald Martin:

The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches, “Virtue is a habitual and firm disposition to do good” (No. 1833). The theologicial virtues of faith, hope and charity are given at baptism; we develop the moral virtues of prudence, justice, fortitude and temperance as we grow. As we practice these virtues over time, doing good should become second nature. However, only God can make us perfect, and his “gifts” assist us when we have accomplished all we can on our own.
