June 2, Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ

You are a priest for ever, in the line of Melchizedek. — Psalm 110:4

Mass Readings: Genesis 14:18-20/1 Corinthians 11:23-26/Luke 9:11b-17

‘You Do It’

Monica worked at a senior center where the staff hesitated to make suggestions for new programs or projects because the boss would usually reply, “That’s a great idea. You should do that.” That’s what happens in today’s Gospel. The apostles notice the people need to eat and mention it to Jesus for Him to take care of. Nope. “He said to them, ‘Give them some food yourselves.’”

I suspect if we pay attention we hear that, too, and do our best to ignore or discount it. We prayerfully and faithfully explain to God what needs to be done. He nods, and responds, “You do it.” Uh oh. If we begin that task, with faith, we again see that “for God, all things are possible” (Mt 19:26).

Prayer: Dear Lord, give me the courage to do what You’re asking me to do.
