The Will of God?
Q. If a person died in a traffic accident, is the death the will of God?
A. Here’s a reply from Father Reginald Martin:
Many events, such as fatal auto accidents, seem random to us because we observe only the final moment of the act. God, on the other hand, has had the encounter in mind from all eternity. We may not — indeed, we probably cannot — discern what purpose God intends to draw from such an action, but our faith tells us that such occurrences are part of God’s providence, which the Catechism of the Catholic Church defines as “the dispositions by which God guides his creation” (No. 302).
