Divorce and sex
Q. What is the legitimacy of a couple having sexual relations after they are divorced? Neither is married to anyone else, and they do not have an annulment from their marriage, so the marriage is still valid.
A. Here’s a reply from OSV columnist Msgr. M. Francis Mannion:
Catholic moral teaching holds that sexual relations belong properly within marriage. A couple continuing to have sexual relations after they are divorced represents (at least) a very peculiar situation. In the eyes of God, the marriage is still valid and the conditions for sexual relations continue to be technically in place.
