Question of the Day for Monday, May 13, 2013
Q. I’ve seen some ecumenical/interfaith services that had a lot to be desired from a Catholic perspective. Are there any guidelines parishes should follow concerning this area of outreach to others?
A. Here’s a reply from Father Reginald Martin:
When we consider adapting elements from ecumenical prayer services for Catholic worship we must consider which of our Catholic prayer forms we wish to alter. The Mass cannot be changed, so we should not consider introducing new elements to it. Other liturgical activities offer far more flexibility, however, so we can exercise much more freedom and imagination as we engage in them or plan their celebration.
