The Lord takes delight in his people. — Psalm 149 (see 4)
Mass Readings: Acts 16:11-15/John 15:26-16:4a
Toddlers frequently want to “help” Mum or Dad with various tasks. And although little hands often hinder more than they help, wise parents recognize the importance of nurturing a spirit of helpfulness and realize that constant practice sharpens shaky skills.
Right through the Bible, God draws humanity into partnership in carrying out His plan of salvation. Even before the Fall, Adam and Eve were invited to partner with God to protect and develop creation. In today’s Gospel, Jesus says that not only the Spirit, but the disciples also must testify to Jesus. Perhaps you’ve heard the adage that “God does not call the qualified, but qualifies the called.” Saying “yes” to God’s call draws us into a powerful partnership, for the Spirit himself equips, empowers, and energizes us to testify to Jesus in and through the tasks God entrusts to us.
Prayer: Indwelling Spirit, mold me and use me as You will, to accomplish Your purposes.
