March 29, Good Friday of the Lord’s the Passion
Father, into your hands I commend my spirit. — Luke 23:46
Mass Readings: Isaiah 52:13–53:12/Hebrews 4:14-16;5:7-9/John 18:1–19:42
Crown of Thorns
A few years ago our friend was chosen to play the role of Jesus in a local Passion play. Wanting some small taste of what Our Lord suffered on his behalf, he asked my mom if he could borrow the crown of thorns that she keeps on display in her living room.
When it came time in the play for the Romans to declare him “King of the Jews,” they placed the crown with its three-inch thorns onto his head, and rivulets of blood began trickling down his face. People in the audience were moved to tears. It was a powerful moment, and a poignant reminder of Isaiah’s words to us today, “It was our infirmities that he bore, and our sufferings that he endured.”
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for the precious blood that You shed for me.
