Places of Honor in Heaven

Q. My father-in-law stated that people who believe in God will get to heaven, but their place in heaven will be determined by their actions on earth. Is there biblical evidence of this?

A. Here’s a reply from Father Reginald Martin:

One of the articles of our faith reminds us, “The degree of perfection of the Beatific Vision granted to the just is proportioned to each one’s merits,” and the Council of Trent declared the good works of those in heaven merit them an increase in glory. Our faith has traditionally paid highest tribute to martyrs, teachers and virgins. (Scriptural bases for these honors may be found in Matthew 5:11-12, Daniel 12:3 and Revelation 14:4, respectively.)
