Health Care Rights?
Q. Has the Church commented on whether health care is a right? If so, any parameters on services that would be considered a right?
A. Here’s a reply from Father Reginald Martin:
Most of us take our families for granted, but the Church considers the family an exceptional — and exceptionally important — element in our human lives and our lives as Christians. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states: “The family is the original cell of social life. It is the natural society in which husband and wife are called to give themselves in love and in the gift of life” (No. 2207).
