Question of the Day for Thursday, February 14, 2013
Q. If we are to rise again in a glorified body, how can that occur if our old body was destroyed by incineration? Is this not an offense to God, to destroy the vessel on purpose that he created? I always thought about this, but never could find an answer.
A. Here’s a reply from Father Reginald Martin:
Christians have an absolute responsibility to respect the human body because it is of infinite worth. Our bodies are the summit of God’s creation, and Jesus took on a human body in the Incarnation. When we recite the Creed, we are professing our belief “in the true resurrection of this flesh that we now possess” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, No. 1017).
