January 15, Tuesday Weekday
You have given your Son rule over the works of your hands. — Psalm 8 (see 7)
Mass Readings: Hebrews 2:5-12/Mark 1:21-28
Do you remember your favorite teacher, someone who inspired you to study a little harder or read a little more? It’s amazing the difference a good teacher can make. I see it with my own children. Social studies can go from least favorite to most favorite in the span of a few weeks in the right hands.
In today’s Gospel we hear that people were “astonished” and “amazed” by Jesus’ teachings because He was like no one they had heard or seen before. His words and actions inspired them to change their lives. Too often we let those same teachings fall on deaf ears. We’ve heard them so many times they hardly seems astonishing anymore, but the same things that amazed people then should amaze us now, if we’re willing to be star students.
Prayer: Dear God, open my eyes to the beauty and wonder of Your Word.
