CPSIA threatens thrift stores and charities

It’s for the kids. Those four words can justify all sorts of mischief in expansion of government powers, and the new Consumer Protection Safety Improvement Act is the latest example. The government wants to tighten protection against lead and phthalates in consumer products aimed at children, especially clothing and toys. Thanks to the provisions of the CPSIA, however, anyone reselling used clothes or toys will have to perform testing on the products, including charitable thrifts and organizations that use garage sales as fund raisers.

  1. The CPSC’s press release is basically an attempt to imply that shop owners become bootleggers. No different really from Prohibition. Liquor was illegal, government mostly looked the other way ignoring the speak easy’s, but the cops
could still arrest you and throw you in jail if the anti-liquor crowd made a stink to local law enforcement. Prohibition was repealed as we know – it took a little while.

Don’t you find it curious that not one of our state or federal officials have gone on TV in person to address the issue?

Please consider visiting the savekidsresale.com and sign the petition and send e-mail to congress.

  2. Please visit my website at ReformCPSIA.org. I have set up a petition to present to Congressman Lungren as well as other interested parties. In the 2.5 days the petition has been live I have received over 500 signatures! This is GREAT!
